HPE ProLiant Sizing Guide — India (2026)

Pick the right HPE ProLiant server for your workload — MicroServer, ML tower, DL rack or Gen12 AI.

HPE ProLiant has 10+ models across MicroServer, ML tower and DL rack lines. Picking the right one depends on workload (file / print, ERP, VDI, virtualisation, AI training) and infrastructure (rack space, cooling, redundancy budget). This guide maps workloads to models.

Tower vs Rack — how to pick

Choose Tower (ML series) when you don't have a proper server room / rack — towers are quieter, ambient-temp-tolerant, and can sit under a desk. Choose Rack (DL series) when you have a 19-inch rack, structured cabling and dedicated cooling — DL servers pack more compute per rack unit but require proper airflow.

Gen11 vs Gen12 — should I wait?

HPE Gen12 (launched 2024) uses newer Intel Xeon 6 / AMD EPYC Turin CPUs — approximately 20 – 30 % faster per-core and lower power draw. For AI / ML workloads or 5+ year deployments, Gen12 is worth the ~10 – 15 % premium. For everyday workloads (file / print, small SQL, small ERP) Gen11 is 25 % cheaper and perfectly adequate.

Frequently asked questions

Which HPE server is best for a small office in India?
HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen11 (₹65,000 – ₹95,000) for 5 – 15 users, or HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11 (₹1.1 – ₹1.8 L) for 15 – 30 users. Both are tower form factor and don't need a server rack.
Do I need Gen12 for AI / LLM inference?
For serious AI training and multi-GPU inference — yes, Gen12 with NVIDIA H100 / L40S GPUs (like DL380a Gen12) is the current best. For small LLMs (7B – 13B params) or fine-tuning, Gen11 with a single L40S is fine.
How many VMs can HPE DL380 Gen11 run?
Typical config (2× Xeon Gold 32-core, 512 GB RAM, all-NVMe) runs 30 – 60 VMs comfortably depending on VM size. For 100+ VMs, cluster 2 – 4 DL380s.
